What happens if two registrars want to register the same domain name

All registrars access a central database (the CORE database). This way, multiple placements are out of the question. Up to the start of registration each of the 88 registrars accepts pre-registrations. Thus, it is possible, that there will be two or more pre-registrations for the same domain name. All incoming pre-registrations from the 88 registrars will be processed and entered in the CORE database by using the “Round-Robin-Procedure” (= the subscriptions are affixed in a circle so as not to indicate who subscribed first), i.e. one by one. At each “round”, the registrar can only enter one domain name in the central database, i.e. definitively register them for their customers.
